WASHINGTON, DC – In the State of the Union, President George Bush called for a Pell Grants for Kids program, which would provide $300 million in scholarships for tens of thousands of low-income children in low-performing or failing schools to attend a private or religious school of their parents’ choice. The Hispanic Council for Reform and Educational Options expressed its support for the program, but also warns that much more will need to be done to curtail the nation’s growing dropout rates.
